Hindrances to Treatment of Hearing Impairment

The talk about hearing disabilities is not as uncomfortable as it was before due to the fact that many institutions and organizations focus on helping people with hearing disabilities cope and overcome with the emotional stress, communication barriers and struggles against discrimination. Some organizations and medical institutions even donate digital hearing aids to individuals who have lost their sense on hearing.

The fight against diseases and health conditions that may cause the gradual decrease in the ability of a person to hear is a seemingly never ending battle as many cases are not diagnosed early. Early diagnosis of hearing disability or weakness of hearing are usually not obtained due to the fact that there are parents who don’t even notice that their baby is not as responsive as a normal baby would be to sounds and voices, and there are parents who cannot afford to pay for new born screening and monthly baby check ups. Those individuals who have lost their ability of hearing at a later point in time are often not helped and given medical attention to, because they are afraid to admit to their selves the fact that they need help. Some even live in denial to the fact that their hearing is impaired although many of their friends, relatives and neighbors tell them that they often speak so loud. Some are afraid to seek help and even buy a hearing aid to help them hear better in fear that letting others know that they cannot hear properly would make them considered as not normal people. Some fear of experiencing being considered dumb and therefore not taken seriously.

It is quite a sad and unfortunate fact that most hearing impairment can be cured and hearing can be restored in some cases, only if such cases were diagnosed and given medical attention earlier.
