As much as we try to take care of our skin, there are still factors out of our control that causes blemishes. Such factors include genetics, environmental factors, some chemicals contained in the products we use, and lifestyle. Majority of teens and young adults experience concerns about having skin blemishes, acne and dark spots on the skin. Some who have severe conditions turn to dermatologists for treatment such as skin peels, microdermabrasion and even surgery.

There are, however, some things one can do to prevent or lessen the occurrence of having skin blemishes. Proper hygiene is the most effective tool in fighting of skin blemishes. It is advisable to practice routines that act as preventive measures against the damage of the skin. Such routines may include the application of sun block to protect the skin from the sun’s harmful ultraviolet rays and the application of moisturizing lotion to keep the skin from dehydrating. A person’s diet also affects his skin. Thus, it is essential to have a healthy diet that includes fruits and vegetables that help nourish the skin. Drinking lots of water also helps in keeping your skin hydrated and moist.

In using cosmetic products, it is important to read the labels first before trying them onto your skin. There are some cosmetics that contain chemicals that can be harmful to the skin thus it is better to consider using skin friendly cosmetic products.
